Mental training sessions range from 5 minutes to 20 minutes long. You can explore various mindfulness and breathing techniques to see which ones work best for you. You can also find both supine (laying down) and seated mental training sessions throughout the app.
To begin, you’ll need a yoga mat and some walking shoes.
As you use the Yotta Workout® App, you can see what equipment you would add to support your training. If you have less flexibility, you may choose to add 1-2 yoga blocks, 1 yoga strap and a meditation pillow. Get a yoga blanket if you would like to cushion your knees in certain postures or cover yourself during mental training sessions. Add a yoga bolster if you would like to support your knees and release your lower back at the end of class. You can also be creative with props by using what you have at home that can carryout the same function.
We practice mindfulness when we maintain objective, non-judgmental awareness of our surroundings and of our inner landscape of thoughts, feelings and sensations. We approach whatever surfaces in our field of awareness with equanimity, or a mental calmness.
Mindfulness also involves paying attention to our sensory experience, which helps calm our nervous systems and connect us to the present moment. We can learn to see reality as it is rather than through the filter of our thoughts, cravings or aversions. With reduced stress and increased clarity, we are more easily able to distinguish between what is in our capacity to change and what is not in our capacity to change.
We can cultivate mindful attitudes that include patience, acceptance, compassion, non-striving, gratitude and others that help us navigate through life with a sense of ease.
